The Fareast 28R is the latest addition to the Fareast Yachts family. As its styling makes obvious, this is another design from Simonis Voogd. The design brief for the 28R envisioned a boat that would bridge the gap between the simplicity and affordably of the Fareast 26 and the all out, no holds barred, performance of the all carbon fiber Fareast 31R. It’s already clear that they hit it out of the park with the 28R. Over 50 boats were sold in the 4 months following the 28R’s debut at the China Cup and sales continue to grow.
Design and Build:
The 28R continues to play on Fareast’s strengths; cutting edge composite technology, resin infusion, resin transfer molding and very close fitting tolerances. The hull is resin infused polyester with a 10mm closed cell PVC core. Rudder, tiller and keel fin are all carbon fiber, built in CNC’d aluminum resin transfer molds. All this makes for a very stiff, very strong and very light structure, allowing more than half the weight of the boat to be carried in the cast lead keel bulb. The result is exhilarating speeds. The boat is fitted out with a Selden mast and Harken winches, blocks, traveler, cars and jib leads.
Because the boat weighs just 3500 lbs and is fitted with a lifting keel and removable rudder, the FAREAST 26 is an ideal trailer-sailor. With the keel retracted completely, the boat floats in just 1 foot of water, so it can be easily ramp launched. The trailer can also be fitted with a simple mast stepping system that allows two people to quickly and safely step the mast. Your cruising grounds are now limited only by the range of your car and imagination.
FAREAST is dedicated to the highest possible quality and value. We can deliver consistent and high quality boats at excellent prices for several reasons. First, is technology. The same resin infusion and RTM processes that allow us to build lighter, stronger and longer lasting boats, also ensure flawless lamination and clean, smooth finishes. Because the resin is pre-measured and infused into the fiberglass and core, both weight and resin/fiber ratios are perfectly controlled. Second, is experience. FAREAST has built over 20,000 boats. Our background in dinghies, especially one design racing dinghies, means that our engineers and workers are used to incredibly tight tolerances, and the expectation of perfect finishes. What’s more, we’re building the boats in a lower cost labor market. Rather than leveraging that lower labor cost toward “cheap”, FAREAST increases the time and effort spent on fit, finish and quality control. Third, are our suppliers. At FAREAST, we recognize what we’re best at and we look for suppliers who are also industry leaders. Our boats are fitted with Harken, Ronstan and Spinlock deck hardware. Spars, standing rigging and roller furlers are supplied Selden. Besides being the highest quality, most respected names in the industry, these suppliers are also the best supported globally. This means that FAREAST owners around the world have broad local support for service and warrantee on all the most important components of their boats.
